  1. Attention 8th graders…There are only 10 days left to reserve your copy of Memories 2011.  This program will be shown only once at the 8th grade Recognition Ceremony, but for $10 a copy will be made for you to own.  Copies can be reserved in room 212, or in the main office.

 

  1. The famous tower clock known as Big Ben, located at the top of the 320-foot-high St. Stephen's Tower, rings out over the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London, for the first time on this day in 1859.

 

  1. Today is the birthday of poet Walt Whitman, born in 1819 in West Hills, Long Island, and raised in Brooklyn.  In 1855, he self-published a slim volume of poems called Leaves of Grass, which he continued to revise until his death.  He spent the Civil War comforting both Union and Confederate soldiers. His poem "Oh Captain, My Captain," mourned Lincoln's assassination.

  1. Attention 8th graders… There's only 11 days left to order your copy of Memories 2011.  This program highlights your favorite memories of your 4 years at TE Middle School.  The cost is $10, but the memories are priceless.   Reserve your copy in the main office or in room 212. 

 

  1. Attention all 8th grade girls - if you would be interested in being a part of a golf team at Conestoga HS, please see Miss Hickey by the end of the week.

 

  1. Mrs. Rickel and Mr. Schweitzer would like to congratulate ALL the 8th graders who participated in the Variety Show last night.  You all did a fantastic job and the show was a huge success. Thanks also go out to all the teachers who participated in the staff act, Mr. Broadhead, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Szymendera, Mr. Duccuasoux, stage crew and our wonderful MC's Mr. Ferris and Owen C.  We couldn't of done any of this without your help and support.  Thanks again! 

 

  1. Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the American military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer. In 2011, Memorial Day is observed on Monday, May 30.

1.        Today’s lunch is Soft beef taco with cheese, diced tomatoes, lettuce and taco sauce, assorted fruits and vegetables with low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

2.        Today is T/E Middle School's walk to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.  You can support this cause by walking today at activity.  Bracelets and sneakers can be purchased in the school store or outside.  Please bring your collection envelope to activity and turn it in at the table.  Thank you for your support.

 

3.        Attention 8th graders… Only 13 days left to order the Memories 2011 DVD.  This video is packed with highlights from your 4 years here at TE Middle School. It will be shown at the Recognition Ceremony on June 16th, but for $10.00, you can reserve a copy to own.  Orders can be placed in room 212, or in the main office.

 

4.        The last day for 5/6 After School Sports, Homework Club, and Tutoring Club is today. The shuttle buses will end today as well.

The Softball Team completed an outstanding season on Tuesday with a dominating 13 - 0 win over Valley Forge. The girls finished their season with a record of 10 wins 1 loss and 1 tie. They scored a total of 123 runs and only gave up 16!! 2.        Yearbooks will be on sale everyday this week from 7:15 until 7:45 in the hallway outside of the cafeteria , price $29.00 check or cash, checks to be made payable to T/E Middle School. This sale is for 7th and 8th grade only ...

 

3.        Attention all 8th grade students interested in participating in the crew team at Conestoga - there is an informational meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, during activity in the large group room.  If you cannot attend, please see Miss Hickey.

 

4.        The last day for 5/6 After School Sports, Homework Club, and Tutoring Club. The shuttle buses will end on that day as well.

Announcements for Friday, May 20, 2011

1.      Yearbooks will be on sale only for 7th & 8th grade students next week, May 23rd -27th.  Place your order outside of the cafeteria from 7:15 until 7:45, price $29.00 cash or check. Checks to be made payable to T/ E Middle School. A sale for 5th & 6th grade students will be announced shortly.

3.      Thirty T/EMS students participated in the Chester County Middle School Forensics Competition on Tuesday, May 17.  This year’s topic for the Competition was the environment, and students competed in several different speech and debate events.

 

The competitors were: 

Sixth grade:  Matt C, Abby C, Ashlynn D, Roxanna F, Peibo G, Noah H, Lauren H, Piper H, Rose K, Amy L, Patrick L, Viktoria O, Jake S, Nathan S, Jason T, and Jonathan X.

Seventh grade:  Mara B, Maddie D, Chris F, Rohan G, Billy H, Thomas H, Grace P, Ella R, and Olivia S.

Eighth grade:  Noah B, April H, Will L, Daniel X, and Navin Z.

 

April H won second place in the ‘Original Oratory’ event.  April researched, wrote, memorized, and delivered an original speech about the pressing need for our society to deal with environmental issues.

 

In the ‘Extemporaneous Speech’ event, Daniel X won honorable mention, and Rohan G won first place.  For this event, Daniel and Rohan spent months researching environmental topics and, at the Competition, were given 15 minutes to compose and memorize an effective speech on a randomly chosen environmental topic.

 

4.      Attention Forensics Club Members:  Please drop by Room 203 to pick up your event ballots from the judges today or Monday.  Award winners can pick up their awards after school today or anytime Monday.

 

5.      Attention boys’ lacrosse players:  The clinic with the high school coaches and players will be on Monday.  After school, we will walk over to Teamer Field together.  The clinic will run until about 5:00 p.m.  All players who have not yet returned uniforms can do so today or on Monday.

 

6.      Reminder for all 8th graders performing in the Variety Show, there is a mandatory dress rehearsal next Monday and Wednesday in the auditorium immediately following school.  Also you MUST bring a copy of your Pinnacle course grades to dress rehearsal on Monday.  Lastly, your music needs to be on a CD and turned into Mrs. Rickel by Monday at the latest. Any questions see Mrs. Rickel or Mr. Schweitzer.

 

7.      Attention 8th grade boys’ lacrosse players:  Please give pizza money to Mr. Gately this morning.  We will meet in Room 203 during lunch today to celebrate the season.

 

8.      Don't forget - you can do your part to support Juvenile Diabetes research by purchasing sneakers and bracelets in the school store this and next week.  The walk will be during activity on Thursday, May 26.  Thank you for your support!

2.        Attention boys’ lacrosse players:  The clinic with the high school is rescheduled for Monday, May 23 at Teamer Field from 3:00-4:30 p.m.

6.        In a major civil rights victory, the U.S. Supreme Court hands down an unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, ruling that racial segregation in public educational facilities is unconstitutional. The historic decision, which brought an end to federal tolerance of racial segregation, specifically dealt with Linda Brown, a young African American girl who had been denied admission to her local elementary school in Topeka, Kansas, because of the color of her skin.

1.      Attention Forensics Club Members:  The competition is on Tuesday, so be prepared.  On Tuesday morning, we will meet in the lobby by the auditorium and we will board the bus at 7:45 a.m.  Please dress appropriately for the competition, and bring a lunch and all necessary materials.  Any students who have not submitted permission forms, please do so as soon as possible.  See Mr. Gately in room 203 with any questions.

 

2.      Attention track team. Please make sure that you have checked the athletic board for the line up today. Dismissal will be at 12:20, the buses will leave at 12:30.

 

3.      The 8th grade boys' lacrosse team beat Valley Forge Middle School on Friday by the score of 8-3.  Jack G. and Alex W. played very well in the net, and Matt P., Chris D., Dylan S., Ben C., Tim M., and Joey W. all did a great job on defense.  Nolan M., Niall C., and Kevin C. all had a good game at middie, and John P., Ted P. and Jeff P. played well at attack.  Quinn B. had two goals, and Jack M., Sam F., Luke T., Olivier E., Ryan D., and Matt N. each had one goal.  Greg T., Quinn B., Jack B., Jack M., and Chris D. each had an assist.  Steven H., who was injured early in the season, joined the team as an honorary captain.

1.     Today’s lunch is Pepperoni Pizza, assorted fruits and vegetables with low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

2.     Congratulations to those who participated in the track meet yesterday. Today, 7th and 8th grade will practice.

 

3.     Help save the blue whale!  Buy cookies and candy after school today in the bus dismissal area.  All items are 50 cents or $1.00.  Keep the blue whales' voices from being silenced forever!

The 8th grade boys’ lacrosse team beat Strath Haven Middle School yesterday by a score of 11-4.  Luke T. had five goals, Sam F. had two goals, and Greg T., Matt N., Quinn B., and Ryan D. each had one goal.  Quinn B., Luke T., Greg T., and Olivier E. each had two assists, and Jack B. had one assist.  The defense played a great game, including Matt P., Chris D., Ben C., and Tim M., with Jack G. and Alex W. in the goal.

 

  1. The T/E Softball team remained undefeated with a dominating 18 - 3 win over Bala yesterday. After Bala had pulled within 1, the lady Bulldogs erupted for 14 runs in the bottom of the third to end the game. It was a total team effort!!

3.       On this day in 1974, the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee opens impeachment hearings against President Richard Nixon, voting to impeach him on three counts on July 30.  The impeachment was the result of the scandal involving the bungled burglary of the offices of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate apartment complex in Washington, D.C., on June 23, 1972. Eventually, it was learned that there was a criminal cover-up that went all the way to the White House. Nixon, facing the impeachment proceedings, resigned the presidency on August 8, 1974.

 

  1. On this day in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson issues a presidential proclamation that officially establishes the first national Mother's Day holiday to celebrate America's mothers.

  1. The softball team defeated Spring-Ford in 5 innings on Tuesday.  The offense belted out 13 hits and scored 10 runs.   Kaleigh dominated from the mound, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 8.  Great defense preserved the shut-out.

 

  1. Yearbook staff will meet in the lobby outside the main office at 8:00 this morning, please bring a jacket or coat.

  1. The Softball team remained undefeated with a 6 - 1 win over a strong East Norriton team. A combination of clutch hitting, great defense, and strong pitching led the team to victory.  The Vipers play away at Spring-Ford today while the Rockets have practice.  Great job girls!  Let's keep it going!

 

  1. Attention all Model United Nations Club members - our next meeting is Tuesday 3 May to finish writing our resolutions. All members need to contribute to this.

  1.   1. There will be an important meeting for all 8th graders interested in playing football at Conestoga today during activity in the large group room.  See Miss Hickey if you cannot attend.

 

  1. The 8th grade boys’ lacrosse team beat Ridley Middle School on Friday by a score of 9-4.  The defense had another terrific game, led by Jack G. and Alex W. in the goal.  Matt P., Dylan S., Ben C., Chris D., Tim M., and Joey W. all played very well on defense, too.  Ryan D. had three goals, Ted P. and Quinn B. each had two goals, and Sam F. and Matt N. each had one goal.  Matt N. had two assists, and Ted P., Greg T., Kevin C., and Quinn B. each had one assist.
