  1. Attention 8th graders…The Memories DVD's are being distributed in homerooms this morning.  If you did not order a video, they can still be purchased in the main office. 

 

  1. Track Team:  If you were to receive a medal or ribbon at the League Meet, please stop by Ms. Hill’s room 175 before the end of today. 

 

  1. Yearbooks may still be purchased while supply last in room 122, price $29.00 cash or check, checks made payable to T/E Middle School.

 

  1. On this day in 1884, the first roller coaster in America opens at Coney Island, in Brooklyn, New York. Known as a switchback railway, it was the brainchild of LaMarcus Thompson, traveled approximately six miles per hour and cost a nickel to ride. The new entertainment was an instant success and by the turn of the century there were hundreds of roller coasters around the country.

  1. Attention all 8th Grade Students: If you have registered to take AP WORLD HISTORY in 9th grade at Conestoga next year, your summer assignment is ready. Please see Mrs. Ferenchick in Room 220 to pick up your assignment today.

 

  1. Representatives of Great Britain and the United States sign the Oregon Treaty, which settles a long-standing dispute with Britain over who controlled the Oregon territory. The treaty established the 49th parallel from the Rocky Mountains to the Strait of Georgia as the boundary between the United States and British Canada. The United States gained formal control over the future states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana, and the British retained Vancouver Island and navigation rights to part of the Columbia River

  1. Attention 8th graders…Those who reserved a copy of the Memories DVD will receive their copy in homeroom this Thursday.  If you did not order a video, 10 extra DVD's will be available in the main office Thursday morning.

  1. Ms. Quirk’s math classes should report to their regularly scheduled classroom.  Rm 133.

 

  1. During the American Revolution, the Continental Congress adopts a resolution stating that "the flag of the United States be thirteen alternate stripes red and white" and that "the Union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation." The national flag, which became known as the "Stars and Stripes," was based on the "Grand Union" flag, a banner carried by the Continental Army in 1776 that also consisted of 13 red and white stripes.

 

  1. According to legend, Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross designed the new canton for the Stars and Stripes, which consisted of a circle of 13 stars and a blue background, at the request of General George Washington. Historians have been unable to conclusively prove or disprove this legend.

  1. Attention all 6th and 7th grade students who are interested in playing sports at TEMS next year - if you have not taken an ImPACT test, please come to the library after school today.  Today is the final day of testing for the spring.

 

  1. Attention 8th graders…Today is the last day to reserve a copy of the Memories 2011 DVD.  You can order a copy in the main office or in room 212.  DVD's that have been purchased will be delivered to homerooms on Thursday. 

 

  1. Today eighth grade students will be having World Language final assessments.  All students should bring with them three things:  1.  Their textbooks to turn in  2.  Two number 2 lead pencils  3.  A book to read

 

  1. On this day in 1966, the Supreme Court hands down its decision in Miranda v. Arizona, establishing the principle that all criminal suspects must be advised of their rights before interrogation. Now considered standard police procedure, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, and will, be used against you in court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you," has been heard so many times in television and film dramas that it has become almost cliche.

  1. All teachers are reminded that homeroom will be extended 10 minutes this morning to accommodate distribution of yearbooks. Homeroom teachers please see handout relative to the distribution process.

 

  1. Students interested in purchasing  a yearbook please see Mr. Frescoln, price $29.00 cash or check , checks to be made payable to T/E Middle School. 

 

  1. Attention all 6th and 7th grade students who are interested in playing sports at TEMS next year - if you have not signed up to take an ImPACT test, please stop in to the main office to sign up for a time after school Monday to take it. If you have any questions, please see Miss Hickey. Monday is the last time this spring to take the test.

 

  1. Attention 8th graders…….Today and Monday are the last days you can order the Memories 2011 DVD.  You can reserve a copy in the main office or in room 212.

 

  1. Congratulations to Mrs. Holmes’ homeroom for winning yesterday’s song of the week.  The song was Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows.

 

  1. Thank you to everyone for participating in this year’s Song of the Week competition.  We had a close competition in each of the grades and for the overall championship.  A special note of recognition goes to the 6th grade for being the most consistent grade in the school.  6th grade had the highest total score as a class in the school.

 

Now for the presentation of champions:

 

The 5th Grade Champion is Room 215 – Mrs. Rickel

The 6th Grade Champion is Room 106 – Mr. Broadhead

The 7th Grade Champion is Room 130 – Mr. Boukalik

The 8th Grade Champion is Room 233 – Mr. McCarthy

 

The school wide Champion is Room 226 – Mr. Ferris & Ms. Crocker

  1. Any 7th grade baseball player that has not turned in a uniform should get it to Mr. Mattison as soon as possible. Any player that did not get a season ending stats book should stop by to pick one up, too.

 

  1. The track team will have their end of season celebration on Monday June 13th from 2:45-4:00 in the Cafeteria.  Please bring $2 in by Friday June 10th for pizza and drinks if you wish to attend. 

 

  1. Price $29.00 cash or check, checks to be made payable to T/E Middle School. Yearbooks will be delivered to your homeroom on Friday morning during an extended homeroom.

  1. Thank you to the TE School Community for your support of the Juvenile Diabetes Walk last week.  We raised over $1,900 to fight this disease.  Congratulations and thank you for your hard work and dedication to this cause!

2.     Today in 1865, the civil war ended. The civil war lasted four years, and started April 12, 1861. With Smith's surrender, the last Confederate army ceased to exist, bringing a formal end to the bloodiest four years in U.S. history.

  1. Attention members of the MAC club, our meeting scheduled for today is cancelled. Our last meeting will be Wednesday 6/8.

 

  1. If you are in 6th grade, are interested in playing sports at TE Middle School for any season next year, and have never had an ImPACT test, please see Miss Hickey during lunch to sign up to take an ImPACT test.  It is offered after school next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

 

  1. Attention 8th graders….there are only 9 days left to reserve a copy of Memories 2011.   DVD orders will be taken until Monday, June 13th.  Own the video in which you are the star.  Reserve your copy in the main office or in room 212.
