  1. Congratulations to the 8th grade boys’ basketball team as they defeated Radnor 33 to 20.  The entire team played an outstanding game.  Way to go bulldogs!

 

  1. Attention sewing club…if you need to complete a sewing project before winter break, please come in to work over your activity period today.  Thank you

 

  1. As we head into Winter Break, here are the standing in the song of the week competition.   This is turning out to be the closest competition ever,

 

In 5th Grade, Mr. Prothero and Room 113 has a small lead of only three points over Mrs. Rickel and Room 215.

 

In 6th Grade, Room 123 and Mr. Krimsky leads both Mrs. Cook and Mrs. O’Connor by 4 points.

 

In 7th Grade, there is a dead-heat between Ms. Corson and Mr. Boukalik.  Their lead is only one point over Mr. Marchiando and Ms. Wilson.

 

In 8th Grade, Room 220 and Mrs. Ferenchick holds a three point lead over Mrs. Tyrell.

 

There is a three-way tie for the school wide lead between Mr. Broadhead, Mr. McCarthy, and Mr. Ferris.

  1. In continuation of our cards for recovering soldiers program, all this week, there will be a very, very large holiday card that will be addressed to one of our very own, Jay Rafetto, Jay is a recovering Marine at Walter Reed Medical Center. Jay attended Devon Elementary, T/E Middle School and Conestoga High School. This card, compliments of Mrs. Turners and her students, will be available for your signing, every day this week in the lobby next to the cafeteria from 7:15 until 7:45.

 

 

  1. Attention TV Studio Members:  The schedule for the week after break is posted.  Please come check it to see if you are on the schedule.

 

 

  1. Reminder for the Chester Valley Nursing & Rehab Home Trip.  Peer Mediators and Student Council should meet Mr. Sola in the Main Office lobby immediately after 1st period today.  The bus leaves at 8:55 sharp.

Today in 1963, more than two years after the Berlin Wall was constructed by East Germany to prevent its citizens from fleeing its communist regime, nearly 4,000 West Berliners are allowed to cross into East Berlin to visit relatives. Under an agreement reached between East and West Berlin, over 170,000 passes were eventually issued to West Berlin citizens, each pass allowing a one-day visit to communist East Berlin.

1.      Attention UNLIMITED football team members: we will be ordering shirts to commemorate our undefeated season.  Place orders through Jack M before December 22.  The cost of the shirt is $12.

 

2.      The ice hockey season is well underway and the Conestoga Middle School teams are racking up the wins.

The Conestoga Gray team beat Kennett Grove 10 to 1.

The Conestoga Maroon team beat Great Valley 7 to 0 and beat Lower Merion 8 to 1.

The Conestoga A team beat Great Valley 5 to 3.

On January 1st, Conestoga Gray plays Haverford and Conestoga Maroon plays Great Valley. 

 The following day, Conestoga A plays Owen J. Roberts.

Come out to Ice Line to support the Conestoga Middle School Ice Hockey Teams!

 

3.      Congratulations to T/E Middle School, students, administration, faculty and staff, 1100 holiday cards were delivered to Walter Reed Medical Center. All of you made a difference relative to the recovery of many soldiers. All of you have another opportunity next week. 2.      On this day in 2001, Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa reopens after a team of experts spent 11 years and $27 million to fortify the tower without eliminating its famous lean.

 

  1. On this day in 1791, Virginia becomes the last state to ratify the Bill of Rights, making the first ten amendments to the Constitution law and completing the revolutionary reforms begun by the Declaration of Independence. Before the Massachusetts ratifying convention would accept the Constitution, which they finally did in February 1788, the document's Federalist supporters had to promise to create a Bill of Rights to be amended to the Constitution immediately upon the creation of a new government under the document.

  1. Today in 1901, the first Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden, in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. The ceremony came on the fifth anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite and other high explosives. In his will, Nobel directed that the bulk of his vast fortune be placed in a fund in which the interest would be "annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind." Although Nobel offered no public reason for his creation of the prizes, it is widely believed that he did so out of moral regret over the increasingly lethal uses of his inventions in war.

Announcements for Thursday, December 9, 2010

1.) Lunch today is BBQ Chix, assorted fruits and vegetables, low fat white or chocolate milk.

2.) Attention all Math League Participants. Signups are being taken for the Math League Test to be administered Tuesday, December 14, eighth period. The test will be held in Large Group Room 12 and will last approximately thirty minutes. All advanced seventh and eighth grade math students are encouraged to participate. Please sign up with Mrs. Stehouwer.

3.) Peer Mediation, Student Council, and Cantabile will be bringing holiday cheer to a local rehab facility on Tuesday December 21st. They will be bringing fleece blankets, cards, and socks to each resident as well as visiting with them and singing a concert. There will be a collection next week for new pairs of tube socks in each homeroom to bring to these residents. We need approximately 5 pairs of socks from each homeroom to be donated, but the more the merrier. So next week please begin to bring in these socks to your homeroom and Peer Mediation will be around to collect them. Thanks for your help.

4.) Attention all students auditioning for Seussical Jr. today - please report to room 170 promptly at your scheduled time. You will receive a pass to return to class after your audition. Good luck!

3.      Today in 1941, a 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time, a Japanese dive bomber bearing the red symbol of the Rising Sun of Japan on its wings appears out of the clouds above the island of Oahu. A swarm of 360 Japanese warplanes followed, descending on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in a ferocious assault. The surprise attack struck a critical blow against the U.S. Pacific fleet and drew the United States irrevocably into World War II.

 

4.      In honor of Pearl Harbor Day, all U.S. and Pennsylvania state flags be flown at half-staff today in honor of all who died on December 7, 1941, and in tribute to the enormous sacrifices that all of our military heroes, from World War II to the War on Terror, have made in the protection and safety of our nation and its citizens.

4.    On this day in 1884, in Washington, D.C., workers place a nine-inch aluminum pyramid atop a tower of white marble, completing the construction of an impressive monument to the city's namesake and the nation's first president, George Washington.

 

5.    The 13th Amendment to the Constitution, officially ending the institution of slavery, is ratified. There will be a contest in January for 5th, 6th, and 7th graders through the Social Studies classes. 3.    There will be an optional rehearsal for all females interested in auditioning for the 7th and 8th grade musical during activity today in room 10.

 

4.    An important reminder - All audition forms for the 7th and 8th grade musical are due to the main office by Friday

 

5.    All winter athletes needing an IMACT test can report to the alien lab on Thursday or Friday after school

 

6.    The Geography question yesterday asked for the states and the Great Lake that borders Pennsylvania. There were 48 correct answers submitted. The winners can pick up their prizes today. They are Carolyn A, Peyton J, Noah B, Aidan L, Catherine R, and Emma T.

 

7.    If you have been able to answer the geography questions in the last 5 days you may want to keep practicing geography trivia on line and with an atlas. There will be a contest in January through the Social Studies classes for 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. It is a nation wide contest called the Geography Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Good Luck
