  1. Lunch Today’s is cheese and pepperoni dippers, assorted fruits and vegetables with low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

  1. All 8th graders planning on participating in the 8th grade Variety Show on Thursday, May 26th need to pick up an audition form from Mr. Schweitzer this week.  The audition forms are due back to Mr. Schweitzer by Friday, May 6th.  Auditions will be held on Thursday, May 12th after school in the auditorium.  Any questions please see Mr. Schweitzer or Mrs. Rickel.

 

  1. There will be an important meeting for all 8th graders interested in playing football at Conestoga on Monday during activity in the large group room.  See Miss Hickey if you cannot attend.

 

  1. The Save the Whales Club will be selling snacks after school today in the dismissal area to raise money for the WWF.

 

  1. The Girl's Softball team remained undefeated with a convincing 16 - 0 win over Welsh Valley yesterday. The entire team contributed to the victory with outstanding defense, great pitching, and clutch hitting. Great job girls!!!

 

  1. The 8th grade boys' lacrosse team beat Paxon Hollow Middle School on Wednesday by a score of 10-2.  The defense, including Matt P., Dylan S., Ben C., and Chris D., played a great game, especially Jack G. and Alex W. in the goal.  Sam F. scored three goals, Luke T., Greg T., and Ryan D. each had two goals, and Matt N. had one goal.  Ted P., Quinn B., and Sam F. each had two assists, and Greg T. had one assist.

 

  1. 7th Grade will have track practice today; others who would like to practice are welcome.  8th Grade will have Track practice on Monday.

 

  1. Here is our April Song of the Week Update

Ms. Rickel remains the leader in 5th Grade. They currently have a two point lead over Mr. Prothero. 

The 6th Grade race has tightened even more between the three leaders.  Mr. Broadhead has a slim one point lead over both Mr. Krimsky and Ms. O’Connor.

Showing steady consistency, Mr. Boukalik has taken the lead in 7th Grade. Ms. Corson is now three points behind in second place.

Mr. McCarthy has regained the top spot in 8th grade.  Mrs. Tyrell has fallen two points behind.

The overall school leader is still Room 226 and Mr. Ferris.  They maintain a two point lead over Mr. Boukalik.

Remember – every correct Artist you submit is worth 1 point, every correct Title is worth 1 point, and winners of the week are drawn at random from all entries.

  1. Lunch Today’s is soft turkey taco with cheese, diced tomatoes, lettuce and taco sauce, assorted fruits and vegetables with low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

  1. Just a reminder to all 7th graders going on the Williamsburg Trip that your medical form and roommate forms are due to Ms. Wilson by Thursday April 28th.  The medical form can be turned in any time through the 28th.  The roommate form must be turned in to Ms. Wilson in person with all four people from the room in attendance.  Please see Ms. Wilson with any questions.

 

  1. Yearbook staff please be reminded of a very brief meeting today. Also permission slips are due for our seminar next week.

 

  1.   1. On this day in 1954, the Salk polio vaccine field trials, involving 1.8 million children, begin at the Franklin Sherman Elementary School in McLean, Virginia. Children in the United States, Canada and Finland participated in the trials, which used for the first time the now-standard double-blind method, whereby neither the patient nor attending doctor knew if the inoculation was the vaccine or a placebo. On April 12, 1955, researchers announced the vaccine was safe and effective and it quickly became a standard part of childhood immunizations in America. In the ensuing decades, polio vaccines would all but wipe out the highly contagious disease in the Western Hemisphere.

Announcements for Friday, April 15, 2011

1.      Attention all 8th grade students - the deadline for Peer Mediation applications is today.  Please turn in all parts of the application to the main office.  If you have any questions, please see Miss Hickey.

 

2.      Attention all students - there is an international foods Spring Break challenge that is now available.  You can pick up the handout in the cafeteria or the main office and complete it over break.  Return it to the main office by Friday, April 29 to be eligible for a prize.

 

3.      The 8th grade boys' lacrosse team beat Drexel Hill Middle School 10-3 yesterday.  Ryan D., Quinn B., and Olivier E. each had two goals, and Luke T., Greg T., Jack B., and Jack M. each had a goal.  Greg T. had two assists, and Jack B., John P., Ryan D., Jeff P., Quinn B., and Jack M. each had one assist.  Jack G. and Alex W. did a great job in goal for the Bulldogs.

 

4.      Attention all boys' lacrosse players:  Please drop off shirt and short orders to Mr. Gately in Room 203.  There will be no practice today.

 

5.      There will be no track practice today.  7th Grade will have practice on Monday April 25th.

1.      Don't forget, tomorrow is the last day to bring in any change or donations for Pennies for Patients.  The money will be used to help in cancer research specifically for blood related cancers.  Please help out this worthy cause!

 

2.      Attention all 8th grade students - the deadline for Peer Mediation applications is tomorrow, Friday, April 15.  Please turn in all parts of the application to the main office.  If you have any questions, please see Miss Hickey.

 

3.      8th grade girls Lacrosse will practice at T/E today, Thursday. Practice will end at the regular time.

 

4.      The Writing Club will NOT meet today.  We will meet again after spring break.

 

5.      Attention boys’ lacrosse players: There has been a change for today’s game at Drexel Hill Middle School. The 8th grade team will play first today at 3:30 p.m.  The 7th grade team will play the second game which will start at 4:30 p.m.  Please see Mr. Gately in room 203 with any questions.

1.      On this day, 150 years ago, April 12, 1861, The Civil War began when Confederate shore batteries under General P.G.T. Beauregard open fire on Union-held Fort Sumter in South Carolina's Charleston Bay. During the next 34 hours, 50 Confederate guns and mortars launched more than 4,000 rounds at the poorly supplied fort. On April 13, U.S. Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort. Two days later, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation calling for 75,000 volunteer soldiers to quell the Southern "insurrection."

Just a reminder that we are raising money for blood cancer research.  Don’t forget to bring in any extra coins to raise money for cancer.  All you have to do is collect coins and put them in your homeroom’s collection box by Friday April 15th.  The top fundraising homeroom will win a pizza party!!!   1. The 8th grade boys’ lacrosse team lost to Garnet Valley by a score of 8-6 yesterday.  Goals were scored by Quinn B., Sam F., Greg T., Jack M., Matt N., and Luke T.  Quinn B., Luke T, Kevin C., and Greg T. also each had an assist.

 

  1. On Monday, the 7th Grade Rockets Softball team improved their record to 2 and 0 with a convincing 15 - 0 win against Stewart.  Ella, Shannon, Lilly, Ellie, all played outstanding defensively while Alice, Julia, Abby, and Miranda were stars at the plate. Both Rachel C and Rachel D played outstanding along with Grace and Taylor. Linda and Casey combined to pitch the shutout. Great Job girls!!

 

Yesterday, the 7th Grade Vipers Softball Team opened up their season by beating Radnor by the score of 15 - 0. Gigi pitched the two hit shutout while striking out 8. Maddie W, Liz, Callie, and Alice led the hitting attack while Maddie D, Maddie O, Linda, Casey led an outstanding defensive effort that was highlighted by Emily's acrobatic catch!

 

Both teams have practice today as they prepare for Monday's game against Valley Forge.

 

  1. Congratulations to the track team for a successful meet yesterday.  Everyone did a great job!  Thank you to those who helped out with timing and events.

4.     Here is our March Song of the Week Update

 

There is a new leader in 5th Grade. With a strong showing this month, Ms. Rickel has surged one point ahead of Mr. Prothero.  Following close behind is Mrs. McDermott.

 

The race for the 6th Grade title looks like it will go down to the end of the year as there is now a tie between Mr. Broadhead and Mr. Krimsky.  Ms. O’Connor has closed the gap to only two points.  It could still go to anyone.

 

The flip-flop battle for the lead in 7th Grade continues as Ms. Corson now holds the lead.  Mr. Boukalik is just one point back.  Don’t count out two-time school champion Ms. Wilson who is currently in third.

 

A strong third quarter has put Mrs. Tyrell into first place in 8th Grade. Mr. McCarthy trails by only one point in another tight race.

Do you know what blood cancer is?  It’s a disease that occurs in the blood.  A healthy blood cell turns into a bad blood cell and multiplies.  To get rid of this disease, blood cancer patients have to take special medicines.  By participating in Pennies for patients, we will be helping raise money to find cures for blood cancer.

 

Don’t forget to bring in any extra coins to raise money for cancer.  We will be collecting coins for the next two weeks.  All you have to do is collect coins and put them in your homeroom’s collection box.  The top fundraising homeroom will win a pizza party!!! Every cent counts, so start collecting today!!

2.    If you would like to be a Conestoga Football or Basketball Cheerleader for the 2011-2012 school year, you must attend today’s practice from 7:30-8:45.  Practices will be held in the Valley Forge Middle School cafeteria.  You must attend both practice sessions in order to be able to try-out.  Try-outs will be held on Monday, April 11th and Tuesday, April 12th beginning at 5:30.  More information will be given at the first practice.
