Announcements for Thursday, December 9, 2010

1.) Lunch today is BBQ Chix, assorted fruits and vegetables, low fat white or chocolate milk.

2.) Attention all Math League Participants. Signups are being taken for the Math League Test to be administered Tuesday, December 14, eighth period. The test will be held in Large Group Room 12 and will last approximately thirty minutes. All advanced seventh and eighth grade math students are encouraged to participate. Please sign up with Mrs. Stehouwer.

3.) Peer Mediation, Student Council, and Cantabile will be bringing holiday cheer to a local rehab facility on Tuesday December 21st. They will be bringing fleece blankets, cards, and socks to each resident as well as visiting with them and singing a concert. There will be a collection next week for new pairs of tube socks in each homeroom to bring to these residents. We need approximately 5 pairs of socks from each homeroom to be donated, but the more the merrier. So next week please begin to bring in these socks to your homeroom and Peer Mediation will be around to collect them. Thanks for your help.

4.) Attention all students auditioning for Seussical Jr. today - please report to room 170 promptly at your scheduled time. You will receive a pass to return to class after your audition. Good luck!

Announcements for Tuesday December 7, 2010

1.      Lunch today is soft turkey taco, assorted fruits and vegetables, low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

2.      Those 8th grade students attending the Wharton Esherick field next week are reminded to submit their permissions forms ASAP.

 

3.      Today in 1941, a 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time, a Japanese dive bomber bearing the red symbol of the Rising Sun of Japan on its wings appears out of the clouds above the island of Oahu. A swarm of 360 Japanese warplanes followed, descending on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in a ferocious assault. The surprise attack struck a critical blow against the U.S. Pacific fleet and drew the United States irrevocably into World War II.

 

4.      In honor of Pearl Harbor Day, all U.S. and Pennsylvania state flags be flown at half-staff today in honor of all who died on December 7, 1941, and in tribute to the enormous sacrifices that all of our military heroes, from World War II to the War on Terror, have made in the protection and safety of our nation and its citizens.

 

5.      The very last day for submitting cards 4 recovering soldiers is this Wednesday, Dec.8th

 

6.      There will be an optional music rehearsal for students auditioning for Seussical Jr. today during activity in room 10.

2.    There will be a meeting for 7th grade basketball players after school tomorrow Tuesday December 7th in room 221.  Please come right after the bell.  We should be done by 3:15.

 

3.    The very last day for submitting cards 4 recovering soldiers is this Wednesday, Dec.8th

 

4.    On this day in 1884, in Washington, D.C., workers place a nine-inch aluminum pyramid atop a tower of white marble, completing the construction of an impressive monument to the city's namesake and the nation's first president, George Washington.

 

5.    The 13th Amendment to the Constitution, officially ending the institution of slavery, is ratified. "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." With these words, the single greatest change wrought by the Civil War was officially noted in the U.S. Constitution.

1.    Forensics Club Members - The competition training field trip is on Monday.  Meet in Room 203 at 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning.  Seventh and eighth grade Club members, remember to bring a lunch.  Please see Mr. Gately with any questions.

3.    There will be an optional rehearsal for all boys interested in auditioning for the 7th and 8th grade musical during activity today in room 10.

 

4.    An important reminder - All audition forms for the 7th and 8th grade musical are due to the main office by Friday

 

5.    If you were able to answer the geography questions during the past week, you may want to keep practicing geography trivia on line and with an atlas. There will be a contest in January for 5th, 6th, and 7th graders through the Social Studies classes. It is a nation wide contest called the Geography Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Good Luck

1.    Cards for Recovering Soldiers are due by Thursday, Dec. 2, thank you.

 

2.    All choral sectionals held during activity period are cancelled for this week.

 

3.    There will be an optional rehearsal for all females interested in auditioning for the 7th and 8th grade musical during activity today in room 10.

 

4.    An important reminder - All audition forms for the 7th and 8th grade musical are due to the main office by Friday

 

5.    All winter athletes needing an IMACT test can report to the alien lab on Thursday or Friday after school

 

6.    The Geography question yesterday asked for the states and the Great Lake that borders Pennsylvania. There were 48 correct answers submitted. The winners can pick up their prizes today. They are Carolyn A, Peyton J, Noah B, Aidan L, Catherine R, and Emma T.

 

7.    If you have been able to answer the geography questions in the last 5 days you may want to keep practicing geography trivia on line and with an atlas.
