TEMS Athletics: Tuesday 4/12

All games cancelled.
Girls lacrosse, practice at TEMS until 4:15
7th grade track practice is on.
All other teams - no practice.

1.      On this day, 150 years ago, April 12, 1861, The Civil War began when Confederate shore batteries under General P.G.T. Beauregard open fire on Union-held Fort Sumter in South Carolina's Charleston Bay. During the next 34 hours, 50 Confederate guns and mortars launched more than 4,000 rounds at the poorly supplied fort. On April 13, U.S. Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort. Two days later, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation calling for 75,000 volunteer soldiers to quell the Southern "insurrection."

 

2.      Attention all 8th grade students - the deadline for Peer Mediation applications is Friday, April 15.  Please turn in all parts of the application to the main office.  If you have any questions, please see Miss Hickey.

 

3.      Yesterday your 8th grade girls’ lacrosse team defeated Valley Forge. The score was Bulldogs 12 Eagles 6. The story of the game was defense. TE’s defense was outstanding.

 

4.      On this date in 1945, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the longest serving president in American history died from a stroke at the age of 63.

  1. Just a reminder that we are raising money for blood cancer research.  Don’t forget to bring in any extra coins to raise money for cancer.  All you have to do is collect coins and put them in your homeroom’s collection box by Friday April 15th.  The top fundraising homeroom will win a pizza party!!! Every cent counts, so start collecting today.

 

  1. On this day in 1814, Napoleon Bonaparte, emperor of France and one of the greatest military leaders in history, abdicates the throne, and, in the Treaty of Fontainebleau, is banished to the Mediterranean island of Elba.

 

  1. Attention all Model United Nations Club members on the field trip today: meet at the office area to leave at 8:30 am.

 

4.      On April 11, 1970, Apollo 13, the third lunar landing mission, is successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. After an oxygen tank exploded on the evening of April 13, however, the new mission objective became to get the Apollo 13 crew home alive.

  1. Lunch Today’s is 5 inch individual pizza, assorted fruits and vegetables with low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

  1. Attention Math League members:  Math League is to meet in the cafeteria at the very beginning of 8th period for a yearbook photo.
