Announcements for Monday, January 10, 2011

  1. Lunch today is Chicken Nuggets w/ dipping sauce, assorted fruits and vegetables, low fat white or chocolate milk.

 

  1. The PTO is organizing a student book swap.  It's a fun way to encourage reading.  Students share their gently used, middle school appropriate books with other students in exchange for new reading material that is free. Book swap tables are set up at the front and back entrances this week. When you drop off a book, be sure to take a ticket to participate in the swap.

 

  1. Then on January 18th, 19th, and 20th students will be able to go to the large group room during activity and pick out new books.  Students will be able to select as many new books as they dropped off the week before.

 

  1. Your logo could be featured on this year’s Seussical Jr. t-shirt!  Design a logo that best represents Seussical Jr. The Musical and the characters of Dr. Seuss.  See your art teacher or the flyer on the musical bulletin board for more information.  Logos are due to the main office by Friday, January 14.

 

  1. While enjoying the long winter weekend holiday, please remember those less fortunate, who will be grateful for a warm meal. The Martin Luther King Casserole Project is a great way to help! Students are asked to purchase the ingredients for a casserole, combine the ingredients, freeze the casserole and bring it to school between 7-8am on Tuesday, Jan 18. The tins will be available after school on Friday or look on the TEMS website for instructions.

  

  1. The Tie-Breaker questions for the students who earned 6 out of 7 correct answers so far in the Geography Bee will be held in the Large Group Room during 6th period Tuesday 11 January. Those 55 students will need to be there by 12:15 with their lunches, so the competition can begin promptly. They should each bring a marker with them to write down their answers to the questions. The list of the 55 names is found outside room 206.

 

  1. Attention all 6th graders attending the Villanova game this Wednesday. There will be a short meeting today during Activity in Mr. Allison's room…Room 105.

The PTO is organizing a student book swap to be held in the next couple of weeks.  It's a fun way to encourage reading.  Students share their gently used, middle school appropriate books with other students in exchange for new reading material that is free.  There will be collection boxes located around the school entrances and in the school store next week to drop off any middle school appropriate books you would like to trade in.  Then on January 18th, 19th, and 20th students will be able to go to the large group room during activity and pick out new books.  Students will be able to select as many new books as they dropped off the week before.

 

  1. Attention all Math League Participants.  Signups are being taken for the Math League Test to be administered Tuesday, January 11, eighth period.  The test will be held in Large Group Room 12 and will last approximately thirty minutes. All advanced seventh and eighth grade math students are encouraged to participate.  Please sign up with Mrs. Stehouwer. 

 

  1. Congratulations to the top scoring students on the Geography Bee. These students answered all 7 out of 7 questions correctly and will be part of the final round of questions.

  1. The Conestoga Middle School Ice Hockey Team won the Christmas Tournament at Ice Line defeating Bishop Shanahan-O'Hara in the final game by a score of 9 to 3. The team, a combination of players from the Maroon and Gray teams, defeated Spring Ford, Haverford, Shanahan-O'Hara and West Chester in order to make the finals. Stop by to see the tournament trophy on display in the trophy case by the large gym. Come out to support the ice hockey team on Sunday, January 10th as the Stoga Gray team plays Haverford, Sunday, January 16th as the Stoga Maroon team versus Lower Merion and on January 31st when Stoga A versus Radnor.
