Today's lunch is Belgian Waffle Sticks & Sausage Patty, assorted fruits and vegetables, and low-fat white or chocolate milk.

Thank you to all the students who donated toys to Helping Hands to benefit Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Congratulations to Mr. Veroneau's 5th grade homeroom for donating the most toys!

All sports equipment will be collected until the end of this week in Room 234. Please donate your gently used sports equipment to the Kick It Up for Recess collections drive sponsored by Conestoga's student United Way group.

Winter Chess Club will start this Wednesday, January 11th. Please stop by room 110 and pick up a permission slip from Mr. Prothero if you are interested in joining.

Congratulation to the 8th grade boys' basketball team as they defeated E T Richardson 46 to 15, the entire team played an outstanding game.

Attention cast of Cinderella: Rehearsals this week will be LEADS ONLY on Tuesday and FULL CAST on Thursday.

Helping Hands members, please pick up permission slips to our next 2 community service activities from Ms. Seymour in Room 208 or Mrs. Abell-Galella in the main office.

Attention all Model United Nations Club members - Our next meeting is today after school in Room 130. We will research our 3 country assignments.

3.       On this day in 1933, construction begins on the Golden Gate Bridge, as workers began excavating 3.25 million cubic feet of dirt for the structure’s huge anchorages.

4.       Today in 1896, six years after Wilford Woodruff, president of the Mormon church, issued his Manifesto reforming political, religious, and economic life in Utah, the territory is admitted into the Union as the 45th state

 

5.       Today in 1974, President Richard Nixon refuses to hand over tape recordings and documents that had been subpoenaed by the Senate Watergate Committee. Marking the beginning of the end of his Presidency, Nixon would resign from office in disgrace eight months later.

2.       Attention cast of Cinderella and the Substitute Fairy Godmother:  There is a FULL CAST rehearsal today from 3:10-4:15.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

 

3.       On January 3, 1959, President Eisenhower signs a special proclamation admitting the territory of Alaska into the Union as the 49th and largest state.

 

4.       All 7th and 8th grade math counts participants should stop by Ms. Quirk’s room on Wednesday morning to pick up their letter.

Announcements for Wednesday, December 21, 2011 - Day 2

1.      Today’s lunch is Pizza Dippers (Cheese Filled Breadsticks) w/Marinara Sauce, assorted fruits and vegetables, and low-fat white or chocolate milk.

 

2.      The Helping Hands Club is collecting new toys, games, and craft supplies to donate to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from now through January 6th. We are asking students to donate new, unwrapped items to give to kids at the hospital recovering from illnesses. Please drop off donations in the Main Office with Mrs. Galella. Please provide your name and homeroom number. The homeroom that donates the greatest number of items will win a donut breakfast in January. Thanks for helping!

 

3.      There will be a holiday card, compliments of Ms. Turner and her art students, in the cafeteria this week. This card will be sent to Jay Raffetto who is a former student. Jay is recovering from injuries received while serving in Afghanistan at the Walter Reed Medical Center. All students and staff are encouraged to sign the card.

 

4.      On this day in 1991, in a final step signifying the dismemberment of the Soviet Union, 11 of the 12 Soviet republics declare that they are forming the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Just a few days later, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev announced he was stepping down from his position. The Soviet Union ceased to exist.
