6.       On this day in 1931, President Herbert Hoover officially dedicates New York City's Empire State Building, pressing a button from the White House that turns on the building's lights. Hoover's gesture, of course, was symbolic; while the president remained in Washington, D.C., someone else flicked the switches in New York.

7.       Just one year after losing 10-0 to Upper Marion, the 8th grade softball team came close to upsetting the top ranked team in the league.  The Bulldogs battled for 7 innings before falling 11-10 in a game that had 7 different lead changes.  Great effort by Rachel filling in for the injured and bloodied Shannon.  Outstanding support from Julia and Maddie.  Gigi and Caily pitched well against the best hitting team in the league.  Maddie, Abby, and Caitlyn made some outstanding plays in the field.  Alice, Emily and Anna belted out 11 hits at the plate to lead the offense.  Good luck on Wednesday vs Stewart!  Both 7th and 8th Grade softball teams are OFF today.
